Australia has been Virat Kohli's favourite country to bat in and his the venue he has enjoyed batting at most down under has been Adelaide Oval.

Following an eight-ball-duck in the ODI series opener in Perth on Sunday, October 19, he will return to his happy hunting ground to find some rhythm after 7-month break from international cricket.

With questions raised over his spot in the team with the World Cup 2027, in mind, Kohli needs to make a statement with an impactful performance during his return to Adelaide on October 23.

In this article, we take a look at his Test and ODI record at the venue.

What is Virat Kohli's record in Adelaide in Tests?

In his first tour of Australia, he scored his maiden Test century in Adelaide during the rather forgettable tour of 2011/12 where he got 116 (213) in the first innings while batting at 6.

The 2014/15 series saw the best version of Kohli in Australia. He laid the foundation of the new-age Indian approach in Test cricket when he led them to a 364-run chase on the final day of the Test with twin centuries.

He scored 115(184) in the first innings and 141(175) in the second. Although India fell short in the Test by 48 runs, people still talk about how this Test changed the direction of Indian cricket in Tests.

In the 2018/19 series opener, Kohli could only score 3(16) and 34(104) but India won the match by 31 runs and eventually won the first-ever away BGT.

When India returned for the BGT in 2020/21, the Indian number 4 scored 74(180) in the first innings, helping India secure a 53-run first innings lead before all the Aussies wreaked havoc in the second innings, bowling India out for just 36 and winning the Test.

His last visit to Adelaide in Tests came during the 2024/25 BGT, where he only managed to scored 11(21) and 7(8), struggling against the deliveries outside off, especially against Scott Boland.

What is Virat Kohli's record in Adelaide in ODIs?

The Indian star batter has visited the Adelaide Oval on four occasions in his ODI career.

In first two visits in 2012, he only managed 18(28) and 15(25) against Australia and Sri Lanka respectively during the CB series.

His highest ODI score of 107 in Adelaide came against arch-rivals Pakistan, when they faced off in the World Cup 2015. His 107 alongside Suresh Raina's 74(56) helped India to 300 runs in the first innings as India won by 76 runs.
