‘Who is it this time?’ Steve Smith booed by Gabba crowd as head shaking continues image

Is Steve Smith ever happy?

Of late it seems there isn’t a game, or even innings, when the Australian star isn’t seen shaking his head or waving his arms at something—be it a teammate, an opponent, the pitch, the lighting or something happening in the grandstands.

Smith’s displeasure was once again on full show at the Gabba in the Sixers crucial five -wicket BBL victory over the Brisbane Heat, pausing the game for several minutes in the fourth over of the Sixers innings to object to a group of Heat fans perched in a section high above the sight screen.

It seemed a largely innocuous moment and for a player who’s appeared all over the cricketing world on the game’s biggest and most raucous stages all just a bit unnecessary, even self-indulgent, and the Gabba crowd certainly let Smith know about it, with boos raining down on the 36-year old.

“We’ve seen this quite a lot in the last couple of months, he’s not happy with something,” Isa Guha commented on Fox Cricket, saying what the rest of the cricketing world was already thinking.

“The crowd is getting stuck into Steve Smith, who is it this time (upsetting him)?”

Boos continued as an agitated Smith eventually took strike again,  ultimately dismissed by Zaman Khan for 54 as the Sixers prevailed to eliminate the Heat from BBL finals contention and secure second place on the BBL ladder.

Smith and the Sixers now head west to face the Perth Scorchers in the Qualifier final at Optus Stadium on Tuesday night.

Who will be next to face the wrath of the Australian star?
