The World Test Championship Final is headed to Lord’s, and the ICC has locked in a familiar set of names to oversee the most anticipated red-ball clash of the year.
From June 11 to 15, South Africa and Australia will battle for the mace, and two of the most seasoned officials in world cricket will be right in the thick of it.
Richard Illingworth, ICC Umpire of the Year and a veteran of high-stakes Tests, returns to the WTC Final stage once again. Joining him is New Zealand’s Chris Gaffaney, another top-tier name with experience at the very highest level.

But the appointments don’t end there — and a few names are making history this time around.
WTC 2025 Final: Complete list of umpires and match officials
Richard Illingworth is set to make history as the only on-field umpire to stand in all three WTC Finals — 2021, 2023, and now 2025. He’ll be joined by Chris Gaffaney, who not only officiated last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final with Illingworth but also stood in the 2023 WTC Final between India and Australia.
The TV umpire for the Final will be Richard Kettleborough, another experienced English official who played the same role in the 2021 WTC Final between India and New Zealand. India’s Nitin Menon will serve as the fourth umpire, marking his debut in a WTC Final after being the TV umpire in the 2021 T20 World Cup Final.
