Scott Boland produce loudest cheer of record-breaking day - survives six balls in Ashes image

With 20 wickets falling on the first day of the Boxing Day test, there was plenty of reason for fans of both Australia and England to be vocal.

But the biggest roar from a record-breaking crowd of 94,199 people came in the final over of the day, as Scott Boland successfully saw out the first six balls of Australia’s second innings.

The hometown fan favourite was sent out to play the role of night watchman, and survived two close calls before stumps on day one.

On the first delivery a short ball from Gus Atkinson saw Boland sky the ball, but fortunately for the 36-year-old no England fielder was close enough to dismiss him for a golden duck.

The crowd continued to get louder as the over continued, but it was nearly the visitors celebrating, as Boland edged the fifth delivery to the slips, but was dropped by Jacob Bethell.

The home fans would have the last laugh, as another edge would beat all fielders and race away for four on the final delivery of the day.

It means Australia will commence day two at 0/4 after one over, boasting a lead of 46 runs.

Australia were dismissed for just 152 in the first innings, but responded to knock over England for just 110.
