Former Australian U19 World Cup champion Harjas Singh has been rushed into the Sydney Sixers Big Bash squad as a local replacement for English leg spinner Jafer Chohan, who has been sidelined with an illness.
The Sixers made the announcement on the eve of the BBL|15 season opener against the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium on Sunday night.
“Fresh off an outrageous 314 off 141 balls, Harjas joins as a local replacement for Jafer Chohan (illness),” the Sixers announced on X.
“Welcome to the Sixers, Harjas. Can’t wait to see you light up the BBL.”

Born in Sydney to Indian parents, 20-year-old Singh was a key member of the successful Australian squad at the 2024 U19 World Cup in South Africa, batting at number four in a line-up that also included Sydney Thunder stars Sam Konstas and Hugh Weibgen.
He was thrust further into national—and global prominence—at the start of the current summer after blasting an extraordinary triple-century in a one-day match for Sydney grade cricket side Western Suburbs in October, an innings Western Suburbs club president Michael Swan described as ‘phenomenal’ and ‘insane’.
The third highest individual score in Sydney first grade cricket history, Singh’s innings included 35 sixes and 14 fours and placed him firmly on the radar of Big Bash franchises.
Ironically, Singh actually represented cross-town rivals Sydney Thunder in a T10 competition earlier in 2025, but is now set to make his Big Bash debut wearing the magenta of the Sixers—potentially as soon as tonight in Perth.
