BREAKING: Lyon to have surgery, replacement named for Boxing Day Test image

Off-spinner Todd Murphy has been added to the Australian squad for the Boxing Day Test following the devastating news that Nathan Lyon requires surgery on his torn right hamstring and is set for an extended period on the sidelines.

Cricket Australia made the announcement on Tuesday morning, while also confirming paceman Jhye Richardson has been added to the squad for captain Pat Cummins who will be rested.

25-year-old Murphy has taken 22 wickets in seven Tests for Australia and made two appearances in the 2023 Ashes series in England when Lyon suffered a calf injury.

His most recent Test appearance came at Galle, Sri Lanka in January.

Should he get the nod for Melbourne, it will be Murphy’s first Test on Australian soil.
