'They’re playing for a moral victory': David Warner predicts Ashes domination image

As the 2025/26 Ashes series draws closer, many are predicting that this summer's clash will be one of the most closely contested battles in years.

But for David Warner, he is predicting a shut-out in favour of the Aussies.

"I think 4-0. There’s going to be a washout somewhere, generally Sydney," said Warner.

"If the captain doesn’t play they might win one game."

The former Australian opener is referring to Pat Cummins' ongoing back issues which have put him in doubt for the series opener.

The 32-year-old has several hurdles to clear before he is available to bowl his right-arm pace for the lethal Australian attack.

Despite Cummins' injury, Warner believes that the Australian side has the edge over England because of their commitment to winning, rather than proving that their style of cricket can hold up.

“The Australian way [is going to win out] because we’re playing for the Ashes and they’re playing for a moral victory," said Warner.

The sledge refers to England's approach under head coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes known as 'Bazball.'

The now infamous term was coined because of the aggressive tactics that the England team has turned to under McCullum.

Warner isn't phased by the approach England will take, focusing instead on the positive brand of cricket the Aussies will play; with the added bonus of needling the old enemy before a blockbuster summer.

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri believes that the English side should brace for more sledging ahead of the series, or risk getting overwhelmed by the intensity of the rivalry.

"Verbally, mentally… with Australia, you’ve got to give it as good as you get it," said Shastri.

"They’ll come at you. If you don’t play in that fashion, they’ll eat you up for breakfast."

Warner's 4-0 prediction, paired with the jab at England's goal of a "moral victory," has set the tone for this year's Ashes which is sure to get extremely tense.
