England have threatened to escalate the Ashes Snicko drama to the ICC after Alex Carey's non-dismissal in the third Ashes Test in Adelaide.

Carey hit his maiden Ashes Test century after being given not out on 72 by DRS and the umpires following a Josh Tongue delivery going close to his bat.

After the match, Carey revealed he believes he nicked the ball to England keeper Jamie Smith, despite the spike on DRS coming before the ball had passed the bat.

DRS operator BBG Sports conceded to making a mistake with the decision after Carey's admission.

"Given that Alex Carey admitted he had hit the ball in question, the only conclusion that can be drawn from this, is that the ‘Snicko’ operator at the time must have selected the incorrect stump mic for audio processing," BBG Sports founder and head of technology Warren Brennan said to Nine papers.

"In light of this, BBG Sports takes full responsibility for the error."

England's Australian bowling coach David Saker revealed the visitors would consider raising the technology issue to a higher body.

"I don’t think we’ve done anything about it so far, but after today, maybe that might go a bit further," Saker said in a press conference.

"There’s been concerns about it all series.

"We shouldn’t be talking about that after a day’s play, and it should just be better than that. It is what it is."

"The boys were pretty confident he hit it.

"I think the snicko’s (been) out quite a bit, and it’s probably been the case for the series. I can’t remember the exact score, but it was a pretty important decision.

"Those things hurt... You’d think in this day-and-age, you’d hope the technology’s good enough to pick things up like that."

Day two of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide continues today with Australia 8/326 in their first innings.
