Set a mammoth 258 runs to win from 120 balls, the Heat did exactly that despite losing Kiwi opener Colin Munro off the first ball of the innings to Scorchers paceman Jhye Richardson.
It proved a mere blip, with Brisbane streaking to 1-79 after six overs and going on to seize an astonishing win on the second-last ball of the match.
The heroes for the Heat were Jack Wildermuth and Matt Renshaw who both scored hundreds at strike rates of 200.
“That is unbelievable tonight. The batting has been phenomenal,” Brendon Julian said on Fox Cricket.
Earlier in the evening, Cooper Connolly (77, 37 balls) and Finn Allen (79, 38 balls) blitzed the Heat bowling to help set the Scorchers’ highest ever BBL score, 257.
Alas, it wasn’t enough.
Of course when batting records are broken, bowling records often follow.
Heat spinner Matt Kuhnemann (1-60) secured an unwanted piece of BBL history, becoming the first tweaker to be taken for 60 runs from his four overs.
Countless records broken including the highest ever run chase!
