The two finalists were decided after a two-year cycle of matches among the Test-playing nations.

The Proteas were led by Temba Bavuma, with the hope of securing a major ICC trophy that has eluded them for decades.

On the other hand, the Aussies came in confident into this clash as defending champions, looking to retain the honors before South Africa pulled off a special win.

Australia vs South Africa WTC 2025 Final Test: DAY 4 Live Updates

Punched for a boundary by Verreynne and South Africa are the new World Test Championship winners! It is indeed time for Africa this time.

After being there and thereabouts for so long, their wait is over at last with the stars of yesteryears, Graeme Smith, Shaun Pollock and AB de Villiers at the Lord's.

Bavuma looks emotional, the famous Lord's balcony erupts in jubilation, and some players are out on the ground to celebrate it with Bedingham and Verreynne.

Aiden Markam has been named as the player of the match.

12:29 pm: WICKET! Oh, the anti-climax. Aiden Markram pulls Hazlewood short of a good length delivery straight to Travis Head and the Lord's is at its feet with 6 runs. But he has taken SA through already.

Markram c Head b Hazlewood 136(207). SA 276/5. 6 more required.

12:27 pm: The new ball is taken, and under 10 needed now.

12:16 pm: South Africa inching closer. They need under 20 runs to win now. Australia is out of reviews as Markram and Bedingham are slowly getting the Proteas there.

11:42 am: WICKET! Starc gets his 3rd of the innings just a ball after surviving a caught-behind review. Bowls a scrambled seam delivery full from around the wicket as the ball comes in with the angle to catch the inside edge of the bat straight onto the stumps.

Stubbs b Starc 8(43). SA 241/4 and need 41 to win. Bedingham is the new man in.

11:35 am: Markram is slowly guiding the Proteas to a famous win at the Lord's with Stubbs holding the other end as they now need under 50 runs to clinch the title.

10:44 am: WICKET! Australia gets the early wicket that they were desperate for as Bavuma's fight against his injury has to end — it is, inevitably, Pat Cummins once again.

Pitched on the good length on the fifth stump that holds its line and the SA skipper edges it while trying to defend it on a forward press. Australia sees a window of opportunity, early on Day 4.

Bavuma c Carey b Cummins 66(134). SA 217/3. Tristian Stubbs joins the centurion Markram.

10:30 am: Day 4 begins! It is a big day where Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram could potentially write their names in the lore of South African cricket in gold with 69 runs needed to clinch the ICC WTC mace.

Pat Cummins, alongside Hazlewood and Starc, will have another opportunity to do something special in the first hour of play after resetting overnight.

Bavuma, who had pulled up last evening before showing some great fight, is coming in to the crease, looking better and will take the strike against his opposite number, Cummins.

End of Day 3: SA - 213/2

Aiden Markram's 102 off 159 deliveries has placed South Africa in a comfortable position, as the Proteas need just 69 more runs to register a win in their first-ever WTC Final. He was supported well by his captain, Temba Bavuma, who's unbeaten on 65 off 121 deliveries.

Australia tried their best but just couldn't find a way to break the partnership. They will hope to do some damage with the new ball in the early hours of Day 3 to preserve their chances of sneaking a win somehow.

5:59 pm: Hundred for Aiden Markram! The South African opener brings up his century with a beautiful flick off Josh Halewood's delivery. This could prove to be the most important innings in Markram's life, as South Africa need just 72 more runs to seal their victory in this edition of the World Test Championship.

The Protea players in the dressing room stood up and applauded Markram's peach of an innings, which could finally break the curse for South Africa in ICC tournaments.

4:41 pm: We are back after Tea. South Africa need 127 runs to clinch their first-ever Test Mace. Markram and Bavuma will look to carry on this partnership for as long as they can to place the Proteas in a dominating position.

3:10 pm: Tea Break. South Africa are 94/2 and needs just 188 runs to win. Aiden Markram (49*) and Bavuma (11*) are their most experienced batters and will hope to stitch up a big partnership, with a hope to get closer to the mace.

2:45 pm: Geez! Steve Smith leaves the field with a dislocated finger after standing in an awkward position, a little further up than usual at slips. He not only drops Bavuma’s catch but also injures himself in the process.

2:36 pm: WICKET! Starc changes things up and goes around the wicket to Mulder. The South African drives but fails to keep it low and Labuschagne takes an easy catch. A very soft dismissal! Mulder c Labuschagne b Starc 27

2:19 pm: Fifty partnership! Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder get a fifty-run stand for the 2nd wicket in a big run-chase. Both have been batting with intent and look positive to chase this down on a what looks like a good batting deck now. Markram 29*(37) & Mulder 23*(41). SA 59/1.

1:19 pm: WICKET! Rickleton falls on a nothing delivery as he tries to get his bat to a delivery way outside the off stump and catches an edge that carries to Carey behind the wicket. Early blow for the Proteas — Starc strikes in his first spell once again.

Rickleton c Carey b Starc 6(8). SA 9/1. Wiaan Mulder comes to the middle at number 3 again.

1:10 pm: Start of the run-chase! Mitchell Starc has the ball in his hands for Australia with Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickleton out with a big task ahead of them.

12:28 pm: WICKET and Lunch! South Africa FINALLY blows the final punch with the ball through Aiden Markram as Hazlewood tries to take on him while he dragged that wide outside off stump but the ball only reaches Keshav Maharaj at the covers.

Hazlewood c Maharaj b Markram 17(53). Australia 207 all out; South Africa need 282 to clinch the WTC title.

12:22 pm: Fifty for Mitchell Starc! Starc edges Jansen over the slip cordon to get a boundary at the third man region to get his fifty, get Australia past the 200-run mark and complete the fifty partnership with Josh Hazlewood who has been solid at one end for his 17*(50). Starc 52*(131); Australia 201/9; lead by 275.

11:27 am: Australia lead by 250! The lead has gone past the dreaded 250 mark from South Africa's point of view as the Starc and Hazlewood duo settle down on the wicket. Starc is scoring at a good rate this morning with 39*(88) to his name while Hazlewood holding the bat just fine at 8*(21).

10:41 am: WICKET! Who else but KG Rabada again? South Africa strikes early. Bowls it on the good length on the fourth stump line, it nips back in to catch Lyon in front of the wickets. He reviews, but it is three reds. Number 9 of the match for Rabada — South Africa believes.

Lyon lbw Rabada 2(13). AUS 148/9; lead by 222 runs.

10:30 am: Day 3 begins! It's a big day for the game that could probably determine the winner, with Australia 8 down while leading by 218 runs. Rabada has the ball for the first over, and Lyon will take the strike for Australia.

Teams are mourning the tragedy in Ahmedabad last afternoon when a flight en route to London crashed moments after takeoff, leaving only one survivor.

End of Day 2: Australia- 144/8

What a rollercoaster of a Test match day! After bowling South Africa out for 138 and securing a 74-run lead Australia looked set for command. But South Africa stormed back with the ball, reducing the Aussies to 73-7 in a stunning collapse.

However, Alex Carey’s gritty 43 and a handy lower-order resistance helped Australia recover to 134-8 by stumps, extending their lead past 200. Australia is slightly ahead but this match is now beautifully poised heading into Day 3.

6:00 pm: WICKET!  Rabada strikes just as Australia looked to pull away! A full, jagging delivery from around the wicket traps Carey in front. He reviews, but it's umpire's call. A crucial 43 ends, and South Africa get a much-needed lift. Australia 134-8.

Carey lbw b Rabada 43(50) [4s-5]

4:51 pm: WICKET! Ngidi continues his fiery spell, bowling Cummins with a full, fast delivery after being hit for boundaries. The Aussie skipper is beaten for pace and South Africa are surging. Australia 73-7.

Cummins b Ngidi 6(5) [4s-1]

4:43 pm: WICKET! Travis Head falls to a sharp delivery from Mulder that jags in from round the wicket, sneaks through the gate via the pad, and hits the stumps. Australia in deep trouble at 66-6.

Head b Mulder 9(18) [4s-1]

4:38 pm: WICKET! Lungi Ngidi strikes with a seaming delivery that beats Webster's forward defence and hits the pad. The review fails- three reds, and he’s gone. Australia reeling at 64-5 in the 23rd over.  Australia 64-5!

Webster lbw b Ngidi 9(11) [4s-1]

4:16 pm: WICKET! BIG WICKET! Ngidi bowled a fuller ball that came in and hit Smith on the back pad. He missed it while playing down the wrong line, and although the umpire said not out, the review showed it was hitting the stumps. Smith is given out lbw.

Smith lbw b Ngidi 13(25) [4s-1]

4:08 pm: WICKET! Jansen bowled a full and wide delivery that tempted Labuschagne into a drive. He didn’t move his feet properly, edged it, and Verreynne took a low diving catch in front.

 Labuschagne c Verreynne b Marco Jansen 22(64) [4s-2]

3:12 pm: WICKET!  Green came down the pitch to defend a ball outside off stump but edged it with hard hands, and Mulder caught it cleanly at third slip.

Green c Mulder b Rabada 0(2)

3:09 pm: WICKET! Rabada bowled a shorter delivery that moved away slightly. Khawaja played at it away from his body and edged it to the wicketkeeper Verreynne.

Khawaja c Verreynne b Rabada 6(23)

6:47 pm: Australia come to bat! Marnus Labuschagne takes strikes. Kagiso Rabada to start the proceedings for Australia.

2:07 pm: WICKET! Number 6 of the innings and 300 for captain Pat Cummins! Bowls it short at Rabada's chest who tries to take on the bowler and accumulate some runs with number 11 on the other end.

Beau Webster looks confused for a moment as he couldn't sight the ball but his long limbs help him take a good low catch while diving forward.

Rabada c Webster b Cummins 1(6). SA 138 all out. Australia lead by 74 runs.

2:03 pm: WICKET! Keshav Maharaj tries to take on Travis Head with a double but is days out of the crease on his second run.

Maharaj run out (Head/Carey) 7(15). SA 138/9. Lungi Ngidi joins Rabada.

1:52 pm: WICKET! Five-fer for Pat Cummins! The last recognized batter, Bedingham, has to depart. The speedster uses the width of the crease this time to bowl it on the off stump and seams it just enough to catch an edge on its way to Alex Carey. 14th Test five-fer for Pat Cummins

Bedingham c Carey b Cummins 45(111). SA 135/8. Rabada comes in at number 10.

1:37 pm: WICKET! Cummins bowled it full, but Jansen mis-times it and chips the ball straight back to Cummins, who wouldn't miss these catches. Double-wicket over for the Aussie captain.

Jansen c&b Cummins 0(3). SA 126/7. Keshav Maharaj joins Bedingham in the middle.

1:33 pm: WICKET! Pat Cummins to the rescue once again. Breaks a building partnership by catching Verreynne in front of the wickets. The batter shuffled back-and-across and missed the ball by a whisker. The ball hit the pad and went towards the fine-leg and was called not out — just for the umpire to overturn it.

Verreyyne lbw Cummins 13(39). SA 126/6. Marco Jansen is the new man in.

12:34 pm: LUNCH! South Africa would take the session with 78 runs scored for a solitary wicket of Bavuma. Seasoned County cricketer, Bedingham, holds the fort in some style with a few boundaries towards the end of the session as he adds 27*(59) with Verreynne for the 6th wicket.

The trail is in double-digits now as they need another 91 runs to equal Australia's score. Bedingham 39*(95) & Verreynne 11(30); South Africa 121/5 & trail by 91.

1:53 am: WICKET! Labuschagne hangs in the air to catch Temba Bavuma against the run of play off Pat Cummins' bowling. Bavuma tried to drive a full delivery that seamed from outside the off stump, but the ball stayed in the air for a bit too long for the batter's liking. Captain dismisses the captain.

Bavuma c Labuschagne b Cummins 36(84). Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne joins Bedingham in the middle.

11:31 amFifty partnership and drinks! A crisp cover drive from captain Bavuma helped the duo to bring up the fifty partnership for the 5th wicket in 79 balls.

Bavuma has taken things in control and has shown a bit of intent in the first hour of the second day alongside Bedingham, who has played his part as the second fiddle for the hour well.

The skipper, notably, survived a close LBW call off Josh Hazlewood where he had nicked the ball on its way to the pads and the out decision was overturned by the TV umpire.

South Africa 87/4; trail by 125 runs. Bavuma 36*(79) & Bedingham 17*(45).

10:30 am: Day 2 begins! Mitchell Starc will start the proceedings for us on Day 2 with captain Bavuma, with huge responsibility on strike alongside Bedingham, who got off the mark last evening with a couple of boundaries. South Africa trails by 169 runs.

End of Day 1: South Africa - 43/4

Australia will be happy as they head back to the dressing room after picking up the top four of South Africa on Day 1. After finishing for just 212, the Aussies needed a strong comeback, which was provided by Mitchell Starc at the beginning of South Africa's innings.

Skipper Temba Bavuma (3) and David Bedingham (8) will come again on the second day of the Test mace to rekindle South Africa's hopes of staying alive in the match.

5:55 pm: WICKET! Danger looms large for South Africa as they lose their fourth wicket. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Tristan Stubbs with a hard-length delivery that rattled the middle and off stump. First wicket for Hazlewood in this match.

Stubbs b Hazlewood 2(13). David Bedingham comes in at 6.

5:33 pm: WICKET! The Australian skipper strikes when it mattered the most, as Wiaan Mulder returns to the dugout. A big gap between the bat and the pad, which sees Mulder's middle stump shattered. Australia will look to get a wicket or two before the day ends, to position themselves better going into the next day of play.

Mulder b Cummins 6(44); SA 25/3. Tristan Stubbs walks in at 5.

4:59 pm: WICKET! Ryan Rickelton departs as he tried to drive hard a full-length delivery but instead, got a thick edge and found the safe pair of hands of Usman Khawaja stationed in first slip. Starc provides the second breakthrough for Australia.

Rickelton c Khawaja b Starc 16(23). Temba Bavuma walks in at 4.

4:24 pm: WICKET! Australia strike quick as Aiden Markram falls to Mitchell Starc on the last ball of the first over. Markram played with little feet movement and sees the ball chop onto the stumps.

Markram b Starc 0(6). Wiaan Mulder is the new man in.

4:19 pm: South Africa come to bat! Aiden Markram takes strikes. Mitchell Starc to start the proceedings for Australia.

4:06 pm: WICKET! Australia have been bowled out for 212 in 56.4 overs. Rabada picked up another fifer as he bundled Mitchell Starc to end Australia's innings a bit too early. The Aussies would be feeling that they gave it away cheaply after making a good comeback, which could hurt their chances going further into the match.

Starc b Rabada 1(12). AUS finish on 212 in 56.4 overs.

4:01 pm: WICKET! Another peach of a delivery from Marco Jansen, as the Nathan Lyon misses the angled-in delivery completely and sees his stumps being bundled out.

Lyon b Jansen 0(4). Josh Hazlewood walks in at 11.

3:56 pm: WICKET! Australia have started to crumble as Beau Webster falls to Proteas' star bowler Kagiso Rabada. Webster was looking in good touch, but he couldn't continue for long, as he tried to cut on his back-foot from afar, but the ball took a thick edge and found the safe pair of hands of Bedingham in the first slip.

Webster c Bedingham b Rabada 72(92). Nathan Lyon walks in at 10.

3:45 pm: WICKET! Australia lose another wicket in quick succession as skipper Pat Cummins falls to South Africa's main bowler, Kagiso Rabada. The ball hits the seam and crashes onto the top of the off-stump, as the Australian skipper misses the line completely.

Cummins b Rabada 1(6). Mitchell Starc walks in at 9.

3:40 pm: WICKET! Alex Carey gifts his wicket as he tried to reverse sweep a fullish delivery around middle and off. Keshav Maharaj gave the ball a bit of flight, which tucked under Carey's legs and crashed onto the stumps.

Carey b Maharaj 23(31). Pat Cummins is the number 8 batter for Australia.

3:17 pm: It's Tea time for the first innings on Day 1!  Australia have pulled it back from 67/4 as Beau Webster and Alex Carey have held the innings well. Webster brought up his second half-century in Tests after surviving a scare earlier in the innings when a LBW call wasn't reviewed against him.

2:34 pm: WICKET! The big man is gone and it is the part-timer in Aiden Markram who finds an edge on a delivery that was absolutely flashed by Smith. After Bedingham, Markram and Verreynne, it is Marco Jansen who takes a fine catch in the third attempt.

Smith c Jansen b Markram 66(112). Alex Carey is the number 7 batter for Australia.

2:12 pm: Fifty partnership and Drinks! Australia has gone wicketless in the first hour after Lunch. However, Rabada has bowled exceptionally well while Webster has been walking on the edge of the knife. Australia 123/4.

1:55 pm: FIFTY! Smith brings up his 3rd fifty at the Lord's alongside two centuries to his name. He has held on to an end while the others have struggled. Took him 76 deliveries to do so in style with a four off a cut. Smith 50*(76).

01:10 pm: Beau Webster has come in to join Steve Smith as Marco Jansen continues his over after the lunch break.

12:29 pm: WICKET! Absolutely unbelievable catch behind the wickets by Kyle Verryenne, who takes South Africa at the top to lunch. Jansen gets his second wicket of the morning as he bowls a rather poor delivery that went down the leg but Head managed to nick it while trying to flick. Lunch called by the umpire after the wicket.

Head c Verreynne b Jansen 11(13).

12:01 pm: WICKET! Marco Jansen joins the party as the Proteas get their 3rd wicket in the first session of the match. Full on the 6th-7th stump line that holds its line as Marnus Labuschagne pokes one straight to the wicketkeeper.

Labuschagne c Verreynne b Jansen 17(56). AUS 46/3. Travis Head walks in at 5.

11:03 am: WICKET! It is Rabada once again who gets two in the over. This time from over the wicket, nipping away from full length and on the middle and off line to find Green's edge. Aiden Markram holds onto a low catch in the 2nd slip excellently.

Green c Markram b Rabada 4(3); AUS 16/2. The new man in is Steve Smith.

11:01 am: WICKET! KG Rabada strikes the first blow of the WTC final with a wobble seam delivery on the fourth stump line, shaping away from around the wicket to get Usman Khawaja caught in the crease and squares him up as he edges it straight to David Bedingham. 20-ball-duck for the veteran.

Khawaja c Bedingham b Rabada 0(20); AUS 12/1. The new man in is Cameron Green.

10:30 am: Match starts! Usman Khawaja will take the strike against Kagiso Rabada to get us underway.

10:00 am: South Africa have won the toss and opted to bowl first. Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma cites overcast conditions at the ground for bowling first, with assistance expected for fast bowlers early on.

9:50 am: Hello, and welcome to TSN's live blog for the World Test Championship 2025 Final between Australia and South Africa. We are only a few minutes away from toss time.

Lord's Cricket Ground: Pitch Report

Traditionally, the pitch at the Lord’s aids fast bowlers owing to the swing and seam movement on offer.

Fast bowlers will likely get help early on, especially with the new ball. But as the match goes on, batters should find it easier to score runs.

According to Aussie batter Steve Smith, the pitch for WTC Final appeared a bit dry, which suggests that spin might have some role in this fixture especially in the later days.
