Healy admission after World Cup heartbreak: ‘we did that to ourselves’ image

It’s over.

After a 16-game World Cup undefeated streak stretching all the way back to 2022, Australia has been knocked out of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup following a record run chase by India in Mumbai.

Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to bat in the second semi final, with a fine hundred from Phoebe Litchfield helping the Aussies set an imposing total of 338.

However aided by some uncustomary poor fielding from Australia including two critical dropped catches, India rose brilliantly to the occasion, most notably player of the match Jemimah Rodrigues who finished on 127 not out after a 167-run fourth wicket stand with Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur who added 89.

Speaking after the match Australian captain Alyssa Healy said her side would be left to rue missed opportunities with both bat and ball.

“We did that to ourselves a little bit, which is probably the first time that’s happened,” she said.

“We didn’t finish off with the bat, didn’t bowl great and dropped all our chances in the field, we still hung in there ’til the second last over, so we can take something from that, but ultimately we were outdone.

“India played really well, held their nerve and got themselves over the line.”

The hosts will now play South Africa in Sunday’s final, where one of the nations will win its first ever Women’s Cricket World Cup.
