Most Valuable Promotions have announced that Chantelle Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) has now been crowned as the new WBC world super-lightweight champion following Katie Taylor's designation as 'Champion in Recess'.
MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian stated, "MVP is thrilled to support Chantelle as she moves forward as a two-time world champion. We are committed to delivering electrifying events that showcase her reign and the best of women's boxing."
34-year-old Cameron has been calling for a trilogy decider with Taylor ever since she narrowly lost their rematch in November 2023, taking the score to one apiece.
Instead, the Irish superstar chose to fight Amanda Serrano back-to-back in 2024 and 2025 to complete their history-making trilogy.
Now 39, the Bray boxer's only blemish on her 26-bout pro record comes from Cameron, so if Taylor plans to have one last fight before her impending retirement, then the trilogy decider with 'Il Capo' Cameron is the only one that would make sense.
Rather than waiting around for her Irish rival, Northampton's Cameron fought in a trio of WBC Interim world super-lightweight title contests, winning all three - against Elhem Mekhaled, Patricia Berghult, and Jessica Camara.
Earlier this month, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman initially ordered Cameron and fellow Brit Sandy Ryan to fight for the vacant title after Taylor was named WBC Emeritus super-lightweight champion, citing that she plans to take some time away from the ring to attend to personal matters. It's expected that her first defence as the new champion will still be against Ryan.
Mauricio explained, “She let us know that she plans to take some time away from the ring to attend to personal matters. The fight she was obligated to take was against Chantelle Cameron; by naming her Champion in Recess, we will order Sandy Ryan to fight Cameron to ratify the WBC super lightweight world title.”
