Two boxing legends are set to go head-to-head in what could be one of the most intriguing bouts of all time.

Mike Tyson, one of the greatest heavyweight boxers ever, and Floyd Mayweather, one of the best defensive boxers ever and winner of  15 major world championships, have shared plans for a 2026 exhibition fight.

While Mayweather wouldn't be putting his flawless 50-0 record on the line if the fight happens, because it'd be an exhibition, it would still mark a historic event between two all-time greats.

Here's what's known about the Mayweather-Tyson fight.

Is Floyd Mayweather fighting Mike Tyson?

For now, there does, in fact, appear to be plans for a 2026 fight between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson — and the plan is for it to happen in Africa.

In September 2025, reports first emerged that Mayweather and Tyson would step into the ring against one another. TMZ reported that Tyson and Mayweather agreed to fight each other, signing a deal for sometime in the spring of 2026 for an event put on by CSI Sports/Fight Sports.

"This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen," Tyson said of the fitht, per TMZ. "However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable -- and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets."

Tyson also told TMZ that he "still can't believe Floyd wants to really do this," and that it will be "detrimental to his health."

Mayweather also spoke on the fight to TMZ.

"I've been doing this for 30 years and there hasn't been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy," Mayweather said, per TMZ. "You already know that if I am going to do something, it's going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I'm the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want."

Tyson also shared a social media graphic for the fight, further confirming the plans.

For months afterward, there were limited details on the fight, leaving fans wondering if it was still going to happen. But in December 2025, Tyson said it would be going through, and that a month and location were decided.

According to Tyson, the bout will be in Africa.

"It’s going to be in March and it’s going to be in Africa. This is going to be incredible," Tyson said. We’re going to break all the records. It’s going to be one of the biggest events in the history of the sport.”

When is Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson?

Based on Tyson's words, the current plan for the fight is to take place in March 2026. A specific date has not been confirmed.

TMZ originally reported that the fight would be "sometime in the spring of 2026."

Details remain sparse about the Mayweather-Tyson fight, but it will be an exhibition. Mayweather's 50-0 record won't be on the line.

Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul consisted of eight two-minute rounds, as did Mayweather’s most-recent fight, which was a rematch with John Gotti III. A similar fashion should be expected for Tyson-Mayweather.

It also remains unclear at what weight the pair will fight, with Tyson a former heavyweight champion and Mayweather formerly fighting in five divisions from super-featherweight up to super-welterweight.

How did Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson fight come together?

The Mayweather-Tyson fight seemingly came out of nowhere, as neither star is very active or public in the boxing world anymore, outside of Tyson's 2024 bout with Jake Paul. But according to Tyson, it was Mayweather who approached him about fighting, proposing the idea.

"I wasn’t bothering nobody. He just wanted to pick a fight," Tyson said, per DAZN. “This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen."

"“However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable, and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can't believe Floyd wants to really do this."

Tyson's last fight was against Paul in 2024. Mayweather has been involved in eight exhibition fights since retiring, and he has previously given up a notable weight advantage, as he likely will against Tyson.

Mayweather and Tyson have had at least some tension in the past, including in 2014 at a WBC convention, where they squared off on stage when Tyson faked a punch in Mayweather's direction. Additionally, when Mayweather said he was better than Muhammed Ali in 2015, Tyson called him a "scared, little man" and mocked Mayweather's claim.
