Is Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight still on?

Tuesday, Nov. 4

9:30 a.m. -- Jake Paul appears to still be in line to fight on Dec. 14 rather than Nov. 14. An undercard fight between Alycia Baumgardner and Leila Beaudoin has also been moved to Dec. 14.

Monday, Nov. 3

9:15 p.m. -- Most Valuable Promotions sent out a notice that the fight between Paul and Davis will not be moving forward. Fans will have a chance to get a refund, and Paul may still fight before the end of the year.

3 p.m.:  Paul and Davis' prospective bout appears unlikely to continue in its current configuration. The Ring Magazine's Mike Coppinger reported that Davis is likely to withdraw from the action amid allegations that Davis assaulted a woman in a strip club in Miami Gardens, Fla. On Oct. 27.

Rumors of potential Davis replacements have already emerged, with Andre Ward, Anthony Joshua and Nate Diaz linked. One person unlikely to take part in the event is Francis Ngannou, who shut down talks of involvement in a clash with Paul during an interview with TMZ Sports.

"I'm like, 'no bro, come on,'" Ngannou said. "I mean, don't disrespect me like that.

"The fight makes no sense. That's what I think, that's my position."

Gervonta Davis lawsuit

Davis is the subject of a civil lawsuit filed in Miami-Dade County regarding an alleged domestic incident. Davis is accused of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress by an ex-girlfriend.

The lawsuit, filed on Oct. 30, states that Davis stormed in Tootsies, the Miami gentlemen's club Davis worked at, on Oct. 27. According to the filing, Davis dragged the plaintiff down a flight of stairs and kitchen before physically assaulting her in a parking garage.

The plaintiff cited four incidents of Davis "physically assaulting and choking" her during their five-month-long relationship. On two occasions, she says Davis threatened to kill her.

The first of the incidents is said to have occurred on Sept. 2. Davis is alleged to have threatened to kill the plaintiff for not responding to his calls and texts. Davis is also accused of threatening to kill the plaintiff after accusing her of infidelity on Sept. 23. Davis allegedly assaulted the plaintiff later that day, choking her in public in a Miami restaurant, according to the lawsuit.

The filing includes a text reportedly sent by Davis on the week of his latest alleged assault vowing to meet her at her house. The plaintiff interpreted the message as a threat to assault her once more.

The plaintiff is said to be suffering from PTSD, anxiety and extreme fear, the lawsuit states. She no longer feels safe living alone and is seeking therapeutic treatment, per the filing.

Prior to filing the civil lawsuit, the woman pressed charges against Davis.

Jeff Chukwuma, one of two lawyers representing the woman, told USA Today there is video evidence of the Oct. 27 incident.

“They (the police department) have to do an investigation, they have to make sure they have enough evidence,’’ Chukwuma said. “…Since the incident was on video, they have to subpoena the video and they have to take statements from the witnesses. They're just building up their case right now.’’

Who is replacing Gervonta Davis for Jake Paul fight?

There are a host of names rumored to be in the mix should Davis pull out of the Nov. 14 bout as expected. Joshua, Diaz, Terence Crawford and Logan Paul were considered, with the former's promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirming that contact had been made and that Joshua is interested in the prospect of a fight with Paul.

Ryan Garcia was formally offered an opportunity to fight Paul. However, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, nixed the idea. De La Hoya cited Garcia's business partnership with DAZN as reason why he can't take part in the spectacle. De La Hoya owns Golden Boy, the company which promotes Garcia's fights.

“Let me tell you why this fight is not going to happen. Ryan Garcia fights for DAZN and Jake Paul fights on Netflix,'' De La Hoya, the retired boxer, said in a video posted on social media. "I mean, that’s pretty much the bottom line. Golden Boy has a contract with DAZN, Ryan Garcia has a contract with Golden Boy and that’s just the way it is. I mean, this is business.''

Ngannou also declined the offer of dueling Paul, telling TMZ the fight "makes no sense" for him.
