Future Australian sprint king Gout Gout will attempt to break the 10-second barrier in the 100m (without wind assistance) over the next 12 months.
The 17-year-old has already run the fastest 200m by an Australian in history, while his 100m times are expected to improve as he gets stronger and more experienced.
Gout has a packed schedule in 2025, hoping to compete in at least five major meets.
The Sporting News has all the details on the future's star next race.

Gout Gout's 100m personal best, including illegal runs
Gout's personal best legal 100m time is 10.17, run as a 16-year-old in December 2024.
However he has twice broken the 10-second barrier with runs that weren't deemed official:
- Gout was hand-timed with an 100m run of 9.94 seconds at a school meet in Queensland in August 2025
- Gout twice ran 9.99 in illegal wind-assisted runs at the Australian Athletics Championships in April 2-25
Gout Gout's 200m Australian record vs. Paris 2024 Olympics result
Gout shone in his international debut at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava, Czechia in June.
He clocked a new Australian record of 20.02 to win the men's 200m, nearly two tenths on a second ahead of Cuba's Reynier Mena (20.19)
Gout's 200m run of 20.04 at the Australian All Schools Championship broke the Australian record of 20.06 set by Peter Norman at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
It was also the second-fastest 200m by an under 18 of all time, overtaking Usain Bolt’s 20.13 but still behind Erriyon Knighton’s time of 19.84.
Incredibly, if Gout posted this time in the 200m final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, he would have finished sixth in the main event.

Gout Gout's 100m PB vs. Paris 2024 Olympics result
Gout's 100m effort of 9.99 at the April's national championships can't count for any records as it had the assistance of a +2.6m/s tail wind – 0.6m/s over the limit.
While the teenager wouldn't have qualified for the final in Paris, he would have made the semi-finals with his PB.
Paris 2024 Olympics 100m heats
Gout's time of 9.99 would have finished in the top three of all eight heats, qualifying him for the semi-finals.
Paris 2024 Olympics 100m semi final
He would have fallen short of qualifying for the 100m final, with Benjamin Richardson's semi-final run of 9.95 missing out on the final.
How many Olympic Games could Gout Gout compete at?
Considering his 200m PB time would have placed him 6th in the Paris 2024 Olympics final, Gout looks likely to be able to compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics as a 20-year-old.
He then could have opportunities at further Olympics in 2032, when he is 24, and the 2036 Olympics, when he is 28.
It's worth noting that current 100m sprint king Noah Lyles is 27, meaning that Gout could be around his peak by his third Olympics.
