West Coast Eagles small forward and 2018 premiership player Liam Ryan has officially requested a trade.

Ryan, who signed a two-year deal last January, has signalled that he wants a trade from the Eagles, who have only won one game this season.

He has played 124 games for the Eagles since debuting in 2018 and will turn 29 in October.

The Eagles released a statement explaining that Ryan 'expressed a desire to be traded' on Tuesday during his exit meeting.

Matt Clarke, the Eagles' head of list management and recruiting, said they will continue to talk with their star forward about staying at the club.

“Given his contract status and importance to our developing squad, we have reiterated to Liam that he is a required player at our football club, and we view him as part of our future," Clarke said.

“Out of respect to Liam and his management, we will continue discussions over the coming weeks.”

Ryan has yet to nominate a club but has been linked with a move to St Kilda in recent weeks, with Essendon, Carlton and Port Adelaide also clubs linked to him throughout the year.

The move comes shortly after West Coast captain Oscar Allen signalled his intention to explore free agency with Brisbane seen as the club he will play for next year.

West Coast traded Jack Darling to North Melbourne and Tom Barrass to Hawthorn in last year's trade period.

It's not all bad news for Eagles fans with star midfielder and former number 1 pick Harley Reid signing a 2-year extension today.
