Sydney have been synonymous throughout their history with trading for superstar - or even rockstar - full-forwards.

From the moment Geoffrey Edelsten "bought" the Swans in 1985, he transformed the club into one that oozed flamboyance and was flashy, and that consistently involved a superstar full-forward.

This trend began with their first major recruit, none other than Warwick Capper.

There may be no forward more famous than Capper, who was traded to the Swans in 1990 at the age of 27.

Capper personified everything that Edelsten imagined, and placed an AFL team on the map in a Rugby League-dominated state.

The next chapter may not have been as flashy, but it included arguably the greatest full-forward of all time.

The VFL/AFL leading goal kicker, Tony Lockett, who has 1360 goals to his name, was traded from St Kilda to Sydney in 1995.

‘Plugger’ played for six seasons at the Swans, accumulating three All-Australian selections, whilst helping steer the Swans to a 1996 Grand Final appearance.

Then in 2001 came a 24-year-old by the name of Barry Hall, who gave the Swans something none of the aforementioned forwards could.

Hall grabbed Sydney by the horns, becoming their captain in 2005 and capturing their elusive flag that same year, writing himself into Swans history forever.

There was a slight break after Hall, but the Swans found a way to bring in Kurt Tippett, and then subsequently pair him with the biggest fish of the modern era -

Lance Franklin.

The "Buddy" show arrived in Sydney as one of the modern era's greatest players, after unfathomably leaving the reigning premiers, Hawthorn, at the end of 2013 at the age of 26.

Since Franklin's departure, the Swans have been searching for their next man.

But in a blockbuster move today, they found their new superstar forward in two-time Coleman Medallist Charlie Curnow, in a trade that took until the very last second of this year's trade period.

Curnow will now join the extensive list of superstar forwards that Sydney has made part of their identity.
