With just one game to his name through two seasons, Liam Fawcett is hungry to prove himself. And now he’s set to wear one of his biggest motivations on his back - literally.

On Tuesday Richmond announced some of their number changes for the upcoming season, which included a successor for Dustin Martin’s iconic number four, which is to be now worn by Sam Lalor.

One slightly quirky change that might’ve gone under the radar though was that of Fawcett, who has unusually made the decision to opt for a higher number, changing from 37 to 43.

The reason behind his decision though helps put it into context, with Fawcett not just picking any random number, but in fact the number of the draft pick Richmond used to select him back in 2023.

In the 2023 draft, 42 names were read out by CEO Andrew Dillon before the Tigers took a chance on the emerging key forward.

His first season was interrupted by injury, before he finally was able to debut for the Tigers in round two of this year against Port Adelaide. Against the Power, Fawcett had a goal and two marks in a 72-point defeat.

Richmond are set to be on the clock at picks three and four in tonight’s draft.
