Wantaway Essendon captain Zach Merrett did not leak a story about Bombers players being unhappy with the club over its handling of an illicit drugs meeting.
A report from Tom Morris on Monday suggested unnamed Essendon players contacted the AFL Players Association over their dismay on the meeting - which occurred prior to the mid-season bye.
The meeting - involving Bombers CEO Craig Vozzo, coach Brad Scott and football boss Dan McPherson - was designed to provide "care, support, welfare and education" to players, according to Vozzo.
However, some of the Essendon playing fraternity felt Vozzo breached player confidentiality in what was discussed during the meeting, including an implication there was a drug problem within the group.

The Essendon players suggested to the AFLPA that Vozzo should have discussed the meeting with the club's leaders before holding.
In an additional report on Tuesday morning, Morris revealed Merrett and his camp were not the source of the story despite the narrative being broken to the public on the first day of trade period.
Morris suggested Vozzo had taken board the players' feedback and was spoken to by the AFLPA about the issue.
"It's understood the AFLPA then contacted Vozzo directly to discuss the drug code and to educate him on the best ways to have these conversations with players," Morris said.
"I spoke to him [Vozzo] today and he accepted the feedback."
