The AFL has confirmed the panel entrusted with deciding the winner of the 2025 Norm Smith Medal, awarded to the standout performer in this year’s Toyota AFL Grand Final.
Former Adelaide champion Andrew McLeod will serve as chair, joined by Luke Hodge (Channel Seven), Kate McCarthy (Triple M), Jack Riewoldt (Fox Footy) and Adam Simpson (SEN).
With so much attention on who will be crowned best afield, the league has also reminded media and fans that the medal cannot be split between two players.

How ties will be resolved
In the event of a tie, there is a clear process. Votes are first compared by the number of three-vote selections received. If still locked, the count moves to the number of two-vote selections. Should the stalemate remain, the chair, McLeod in this case, will cast the deciding vote.
The Norm Smith Medal remains one of football’s most prestigious individual honours, with a long list of champions etched into its history. This year’s outcome, however, rests entirely in the hands of the five-member panel.
Grand final day kicks off on Saturday afternoon, with the Norm Smith Medal once again set to spark debate long after the final siren.
