St Kilda spree: Saints turn attention to Hawthorn midfielder image

Despite playing their final game for the year on Sunday, it could be argued that St Kilda’s season is only just getting started.

After completing their first order of business by extending Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, the Saints wouldn’t have to wait long for confirmation from Tom De Koning that he intends to join the club for 2026.

But St Kilda seemingly refuse to rest, having now "registered an interest" in Hawthorn midfielder Cam Mackenzie, according to a report from SEN's Sam Edmund.

"St Kilda has officially registered an interest in Hawthorn’s Cam Mackenzie as the Saints’ shopping spree continues," Edmund post on X.

"He was a member of the Saints Next Gen Academy, but the Hawks swooped with pick 7 in 2022.

"Contracted until 2026; the Saints would have to part with a first rounder."

Mackenzie has featured in 46 games for the Hawks since arriving at Waverley Park, but has seemingly recent fell out of favour with coach Sam Mitchell, as Hawthorn embark on a premiership push.

Mackenzie was omitted from the side following the Hawks' round 18 loss to Fremantle, and has been unable to make his way back into the lineup, despite star midfielder Will Day being sidelined for the rest of the season.

In 12 games this season, Mackenzie has averaged 16.5 disposals per game, while earning six coaches votes.

The 21-year-old isn't the only player the Saints are believed to be trying to acquire, with St Kilda also "confident" that Gold Coast Suns midfielder Sam Flanders will arrive via trade in the off-season.

Liam Ryan has also reportedly been offered a four-year deal to head to RSEA Park, with the premiership Eagle officially requesting a trade from West Coast on Tuesday.
