Snoop Dogg performance rated: Fans surprised as US megastar rocks AFL grand final image

AFL fans have been overwhelmingly positive after superstar US rapper Snoop Dogg performed at the AFL grand final.

Snoop was the headline act prior to the season decider between Geelong and Brisbane Lions at the MCG - performing approximately 45 minutes before the first bounce.

The act started off with a pre-recorded message from Snoop about the connection between music and sport.

Snoop then engaged both Geelong and Brisbane fans by prompting separate bands to play sections of each team's theme song.

Finally, the worldwide star entered the MCG - accompanied by a marching band - to start his live performance.

Snoop went through some of his most famous songs, including Nuthin' But A G Thang, Drop It Like It's Hot, Next Episode, Sweat, Signs, Beautiful, Gin and Juice and Who Am I (What's My Name).

The performance included a legion of back-up dancers, pyrotechnics as Mr. Dogg rocked the MCG from a stage in the middle of the venue.

Snoop also performed alongside Australian artists Jessica Mauboy - with a duet of Beautiful - and Baker Boy.

Arnhem Land rapper Baker Boy kicked off the musical performances with a rendition of his new track, “THICK SKIN”, complete with a didgeridoo solo to finish it off.

This year’s retiring players were then honoured with the traditional motorcade around the MCG boundary.

September specialist Mike Brady was next up with another stirring “Up There Cazaly” to get the crowd on their feet.

Then, it was Snoop’s stage.

The AFL grand final between Brisbane and Geelong will commence at 2:30pm (AEST)
