Could Petracca squeeze gun Gold Coast Suns out? - AFL trade news image

Today couldn’t have started any better for the Gold Coast Suns, with superstar Christian Petracca nominating the Suns as his club of choice.

A player of Petracca’s stature and level would instantly elevate the Suns into near premiership favouritism next season.

But has Petracca’s announcement begun a squeeze of other players out of Gold Coast?

Firstly today, reports came of Ben Ainsworth’s desire to explore his trade options.

Ainsworth, who has three years left to run on his contract, will reportedly explore his options with rival clubs, despite playing 24 games for the Suns this season as per AFL's Cal Twomey.

But more importantly, Bailey Humphrey has been spotted meeting with Melbourne head coach Steven King and club legend Nathan Jones as per SEN's Sam Edmund.

The thought of Humphrey paired with Petracca is mouth-watering, and the Suns will do everything in their power to keep the 21-year-old.

But has the Petracca announcement forced these players to look elsewhere?

There is no doubt that Petracca, Humphrey and Ainsworth would work cohesively on the field.

But could his arrival impact the rest of the team in a negative way?

When a star of the competition arrives at a new club, they instantly command the limelight, a large percentage of the salary cap and unsurprisingly disposals and goals.

While they usually also bring success, a player of Petracca’s stature could also bring some negatives.
