Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield has urged his team to take pride in their 2025 campaign despite a heavy grand final loss to Brisbane.

The Cats were level at half-time but were outclassed in the second half as the Lions stormed home to a 47-point victory at the MCG.

Speaking during the post-match ceremony, Dangerfield acknowledged the sting of finishing second but encouraged his players to focus on the positives.

Embracing pride in defeat

“Be proud, hold your heads up high,” he said on the podium. “We don't, as Australians, always celebrate those who come second all that well. But there's plenty to be proud of today. Beaten by a better side, but very proud of our team.”

Dangerfield also took the opportunity to applaud Brisbane for their performance, recognising the Lions’ achievement as back-to-back premiership winners. His remarks reflected a combination of realism and optimism, highlighting the lessons the Cats can carry into next season.

Despite the harsh scoreline, the veteran captain’s focus on pride and perspective offered a silver lining for Geelong supporters and a reminder that seasons are about more than just the final result.
