Mason Cox news: Collingwood premiership hero set to receive AFL lifeline image

After being told to explore his options by Collingwood, Mason Cox is set to continue his career west at Fremantle, according to AFL.com.au's  Cal Twomey.

Last month, Collingwood confirmed the 34-year-old would not be at the club in 2026, despite playing in both of the team's finals games this year.

He now finds himself in purple where he will likely be insurance for the dominant ruck duo of Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson.

He will be added to the club's rookie list when the supplemental selection period opens later this month.

"Fremantle is set to sign Collingwood premiership player Mason Cox as a SSP recruit to be a back-up ruck, with the delisted Magpie skipping nominating for the draft, which means he can sign with any club in the SSP period," Twomey confirmed on AFL.com.au.

Cox was selected just 10 games in 2025, and only managed four goals despite playing as a key forward.

His Collingwood tenure ends after 139 games and 127 goals, the crowing moments being the 2023 premiership, and his famous 2018 preliminary final against Richmond
