Gold Coast and the Western Bulldogs have opened up about what a potential trade for Bulldog Jamarra Ugle-Hagan could be like, with a Suns player a chance to be a part of the trade.

Ugle-Hagan has had a rollercoaster year, with stories surrounding him throughout the year, but his footballing future seems to be becoming clearer at the start of the AFL trade period.

The former number one pick is still contracted at the Bulldogs for next year but has been touted for a move north as Gold Coast looks at trading for him, with Suns player Connor Budarick potentially going south to the Dogs.

Budarick has played 55 games across six seasons with the Suns but has requested a trade to the Bulldogs. The Dogs' head of player acquisition, Michael Regan, discussed the prospect of Budarick joining the club as a separate trade until Ugle-Hagan officially request a move away from the club.

“First off, we’re really excited that Connor has made the choice to join the Western Bulldogs. Until we get the [trade] request from Jamarra, we will be working through the Connor situation from Gold Coast, and we’ll take it from there," Regan told AFL Trade Radio.

Gold Coast list boss Craig Cameron explained that Ugle-Hagan will need to 'make a commitment to get himself right to play football'.

“We’re considering it because he’s obviously a phenomenal talent. We think that if he gets back to a point where he can play anywhere near that form, that he can play a role for us in our forward half,” Cameron said on AFL Trade Radio

“He has great forward craft and IQ. We think he can also play with our key position players because we think he can play different a role to that.

“But having said that he’s got to make a commitment to get himself right to play football, and we’re not blind to that.”

Cameron explained that while Ugle-Hagan has had discussions with the Suns about joining the club, he has yet to have a medical with the club

“We’re moving forward in terms of further conversations with him,” Cameron said.

“He hasn’t done a medical with our footy club as yet. So there’s a number of things we need to investigate.

“In the back end of the week we’re more likely to have a position.”
