Hawthorn have parted ways with defender Seamus Mitchell, continuing a busy period of list changes at the club. The 22-year-old, taken with pick 29 in the 2020 AFL Draft, managed 28 senior appearances across five seasons but featured only four times in 2025.
Mitchell’s exit marks the seventh change to the Hawks’ list this off-season, following a string of retirements, trades and delistings. Sam Frost and Jasper Scaife were also cut, while Changkuoth Jiath and Jai Serong were traded to Melbourne and Sydney, respectively.
Midfielder James Worpel has joined Geelong as a free agent, and veteran forward Luke Breust called time on his career.

Hawks acknowledge Mitchell’s resilience
List manager Mark McKenzie paid tribute to Mitchell’s professionalism and effort during his time at the club. “It’s always a difficult time of the year and these decisions are never easy, but we’d like to acknowledge Seamus' contribution to the club,” McKenzie said.
“He was a respected teammate who showed great resilience and commitment over his five seasons at Hawthorn. We wish him all the best for his next chapter.”
The Hawks failed to land any major signings during the recent trade period, with their bid to lure Essendon star Zach Merrett ultimately unsuccessful. Mitchell’s delisting adds to a period of transition at Waverley Park as the club continues to reshape its squad ahead of 2026.
