Geelong have moved to delist young midfielders Ted Clohesy and George Stevens in a surprise post-season shake-up, despite both being regular contributors in the club’s VFL setup.

Clohesy, 21, joined the Cats as a Category B rookie in 2023 and featured 12 times at the senior level, including nine games this year. He averaged eight disposals and two tackles per outing while also finishing in the top 10 of Geelong’s VFL best and fairest in back-to-back seasons.

Clohesy backed to earn AFL lifeline

“Ted has had a positive impact at the club and has been a consistent performer at VFL level, finishing runner-up in our best and fairest in 2024 and placing in the top 10 again this season,” Cats football boss Andrew Mackie said in a statement.

“We would like to thank Ted for his contribution to our football program and wish him all the best in the future.”

Essendon, West Coast and Gold Coast are understood to have shown interest in Clohesy, who remains a strong chance to return to an AFL list through the upcoming draft period.

Alongside Clohesy, Stevens and fellow youngster Keighton Matofai-Forbes were also cut from the senior squad, though the club has confirmed plans to redraft both players as rookies in November’s draft.
