Geelong has set a new benchmark when it comes to mega offers, with their offer for Carlton superstar Charlie Curnow being an AFL first.

The Cats have reportedly offered an unprecedented three first-round picks for Curnow, as per the AFL’s Cal Twomey.

Such an offer has been rarely seen in AFL history, with this offer marking the first time a trade has included three first-round picks without any picks in return.

"No club has ever traded three first-round picks for a player without getting any picks back in the transaction," said Twomey.

"In the Jeremy Cameron deal the Cats still got two second-round picks back,"

"In this offer there are three straight first-rounders for Curnow."

From a Carlton-glass-half-full perspective, three first-round picks is a monumental trade offer that could put their list into an extremely strong position for years to come.

But from a Carlton-glass-half-empty perspective, the Cats have finished in the top four 15 of the last 19 seasons- and the addition of Curnow will only aid them - making these first-round picks drastically less valuable.

It is rumoured that Geelong had offered their first-round pick for this year, pick 19, to St Kilda for Rowan Marshall.

However, that offer stagnated which ultimately allowed Geelong to use it elsewhere, and in this instance they were able to include it in their offer to the Blues for Curnow.

The Cats have been no stranger to trading away first-round picks, having traded away four of them in the past five years, including trading three for dual Coleman medallist Jeremy Cameron.
