Fined in Legends Game? AFL sanctions social media star Dan Gorringe image

For most, Thursday night's Legends Game was a mix of laughter and nostalgia, as past AFL superstars and modern social media personalities took to Marvel Stadium in support of prostate cancer research.

Former Gold Coast and Carlton player turned social media superstar Daniel Gorringe blurred both of these worlds together, and was one of the main attractions for a crowd of more than 31,000 people.

Unmissable in his blonde buzzed hair, with his iconic DDF (Dan Does Footy) logo sprayed in red on the back of his head, Gorringe was one of the highlights in an eventful night, providing the go-ahead goal for the All-Stars, who claimed victory 112-104.

But on Friday it appears the AFL were less than impressed with Gorringe's performance, with the 33-year-old revealing on his podcast that he had been slapped with a $7,500 fine by the League.

"I've been sent an email from legal from [the] AFL," Gorringe told the Dan Does Footy podcast.

According to Gorringe, part of the email read, "it's been determined that you engaged in 13 separate instances of making an obscene gesture (the finger) directed towards players, officials, and/or spectators.

"In accordance to the AFL regulations the following sanctions has been imposed: financial penalty of $7,500."

Gorringe was involved in multiple light-hearted incidents, including flipping the middle finger, and scuffles with fellow former players such as Dylan Buckley and Brendan Fevola.

In the third quarter, Gorringe squared up in the ruck against Dave Hughes, hilariously giving away a free kick to the comedian, before subsequently firing the ball his way, costing his side a 50-metre penalty.

It's unclear if the money from the fine would be forwarded to charity, or if it'll stay with the AFL, although Gorringe has vowed to not pay the AFL a cent.

"I'm not paying s**t. Absolutely not paying s**t," he said.

Gorringe played 26 games at AFL level during his career with Gold Coast and Carlton, which spanned from 2011-2017.

He nows runs one of the most successful podcasts in Australia, with its Instagram account having more than 473,000 followers, while his personal page has more than 346,000.
