Brownlow Medalist and Premiership winner Martin was named best on ground in the Tigers' drought-breaking premiership victory last month, but was quick to part ways with the medal.

The recipient, 15-year-old Will Murray, is wheelchair bound after suffering a horrific neck injury at Half Moon Bay a year ago.

Will's mum, Emma, is Richmond's mindfulness coach, and she told the Herald Sun  that Martin and Will formed a bond over Fifa and meditation.

Despite their bond, Will said he never expected to receive the medal and will keep it safely hidden in his bedroom.

Martin capped off a remarkable year by claiming the Norm Smith Medal on the back of winning the Brownlow and being named the AFLPA MVP.

A week  after the Grand Final, Martin's horse, Main Stage, stormed from last place to win at Flemington, ensuring the celebrations will continue for a while yet.
