Veteran journo Caroline Wilson has stepped down from her role as chief footy writer at The Age and will be replaced by Fox Footy' s Jake Niall.

Wilson, who has been with the publication for 19 years, will still contribute but says it's time to reduce her workload.
The highly-awarded writer will submit a weekly column as well as feature on the 'Real Footy' podcast.

Her replacement Niall worked at Fairfax Media for two decades before switching to Fox for the past two years.
