Carlton has flagged strong interest in Gold Coast utility Sam Flanders, with the 24-year-old emerging as a potential target despite being contracted through to the end of 2027.
According to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph, the Blues are “among the suitors” for the versatile Sun, who has become a fixture across half-forward this season.
Flanders has been used in a variety of roles since debuting, rotating through midfield, half-back and the forward line, but is keen to feature more prominently in the middle. Ralph wrote on X that “he would ideally play more midfield instead of half forward, wing,” underscoring his desire for greater responsibility.

Suns reluctant to deal
Gold Coast, however, are intent on keeping the 87-gamer, meaning it would take a significant offer to tempt them into a trade. Ralph noted that the Suns “would need something very good” in return and are understood to be actively seeking a small forward should negotiations progress.
Carlton’s draft hand complicates matters. Hawthorn currently holds both the Blues’ first-round and early second-round selections, leaving their first live pick at No.34. That limited capital may force the club to explore creative options if they are serious about landing Flanders.
The Blues have also cast their eye over delisted West Coast speedster Jack Petruccelle, while Mitch Cleary of Seven reported Elijah Hollands has been encouraged to test the market.
With Tom De Koning confirming his departure and Jack Silvagni likely to follow, Carlton appear set for a summer of change, and Flanders could be central to that reset.
