He hasn't made a name for himself in the media as a news breaker, but Brian Taylor has a good track record in this space, and he may have just been the first to reveal Sydney star James Rombottom is seeking a move to the Gold Coast.

Heading into last year's Grand Final, Taylor teased an "incredible surprise," which was later revealed to be Joe Daniher's shock retirement.

And now ahead of the decider a year later, Taylor has again hinted at some surprising news that hasn't been on anyone's radar.

"[There] could also be a big Sydney Swan heading to the Gold Coast as well. Watch out for that one. [He] finished I think in their top five in the best-and-fairest for the last couple of years," Taylor told Triple M's Saturday Rub.

When co-panellist Damian Barrett pointed out that Taylor had a relationship with Swans star James Rowbottom, Taylor was quick to look to wrap things up.

"Anyway, move on," he said jokingly.

Rowbottom is not only the nephew of Taylor, but also finished third in the Swans' 2023 best-and-fairest, and followed that up with a sixth-place in 2024.

Rowbottom already has ties to the Gold Coast, with his sister, Charlie, a star for the Suns' AFLW team.

He has grown into one of Sydney's most important players, becoming a regular in their midfield.
