Bailey Smith has once again stirred the pot, posting an Instagram story featuring Charlie Curnow just as speculation over the Carlton star’s future reaches boiling point.

The Geelong midfielder shared a photo of himself training alongside the two-time Coleman Medallist, tagging Curnow and adding to growing whispers of a Cats swoop.

It’s not the first time Smith’s social media activity has raised eyebrows. During Geelong’s Mad Monday celebrations last week, he shared, and quickly deleted, a post captioned: “We’re taking the chopper in next year @charliecurnow.”

The post only strengthened suggestions that Curnow could follow his fellow Geelong Falcons product back to Kardinia Park.

Swans remain in the mix, but Cats ties deepen

While Sydney remain firm contenders given their trade leverage, AFL.com.au’s Riley Beveridge told AFL Trade Radio he’s now “confident a deal will get done” for Curnow to leave Carlton. “Having been 50-50 on Monday, I am now confident a deal will get done,” Beveridge said.

Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking admitted the club is aware of Smith’s headline-making posts, telling SEN on Thursday, “When you come off-field, the interest in him is just unbelievable... He has a very different relationship with social media to our age profile. I don’t understand it at all.”

Hocking added that while Smith’s social media antics “work exceptionally well” for him, the club plans to reflect on how to “tailor it accordingly” over the off-season.
