It seems no one likes an Instagram story more than an AFL player, with that being the platform of choice for Clayton Oliver's first response since meeting with Melbourne coach Steven King on Thursday morning.
It's believed that King had told Oliver that he was no longer guaranteed minutes as an inside midfielder moving forward, suggesting that the 28-year-old explore a trade or be prepared to potentially play in the VFL at times in 2026, according to Nine's Tom Morris.
Melbourne has told Clayton Oliver today they can't guarantee him a spot in the senior team in 2026, and would be happy to facilitate a fair trade if he can find a new home. If not, VFL football beckons.

Last year Geelong offered a future first rounder & a 6x$1 million deal, but…
In light of this report, Oliver took to Instagram early on Thursday afternoon, posting a photo of him in a Casey Demons (Melbourne's VFL affiliate) jumper, with the caption "Actually doesn't look too bad on me," and tagging rival Seven reporter Mitch Cleary.

Cleary had also reported some key details of the meeting, including that it lasted 12 minutes, and that Oliver was left "shattered" after being told to explore his options.

Just last month Oliver was said to have fallen back in love with the club, after being embroiled in trade speculation the previous two years.
But it appears he will be subjected to more trade rumours once again in 2025, along with fellow premiership teammates Christian Petracca and Steven May.
