Steven May has managed to find himself in the news yet again, this time along with ex-Gold Coast teammate Dion Prestia.
This is far from the first time that May has found himself in the unwanted news column, and it may be the reason why he was unable to find another club this off-season.
The Melbourne defender was told to look elsewhere during this off-season, and despite turning 34 years old, it was still surprising that May was told to leave a club that is in need of experience.

It was even more surprising that no club showed any true interest in his services.
Given his résumé as a dual All-Australian, former club captain, and premiership player with 250 games experience, he was in a position that many other players with similar résumés have been before.
But May didn't find a second home.
Grant Birchall has a near mirror image of May’s career, and once his time at Hawthorn came to an end, Brisbane jumped at the then 32-year-old.
Luke Hodge was no different.
While Hodge’s résumé was a different beast, the Hawks legend found a new home at the same age of 34 and played two stellar seasons at Brisbane.
The only true difference that May has to these players is his off-field issues.
May’s history of incidents runs deep, whether it was the off-field altercations with Jake Melksham or Campbell Brown, or his on-field altercations with Max Gawn.
Today’s most recent incident is just yet another example of why clubs may have been cautious in recruiting him.
