Fresh off a devastating Grand Final defeat, Geelong have stuck to their guns, extending the contract of legendary coach Chris Scott until the end of 2029.

Scott's impressive record includes two premierships and four Grand Final appearances, the most recent coming in 2025 where Scott had his Cats tied with Brisbane at halftime, before the Lions raced away to a 47-point win.

With 360 games under his belt, Scott is now poised to become just the fourth coach in V/AFL history to coach one club for more than 400 games - should he see out his contract.

The decision to extend Scott was confirmed by Cats' president Grant McCabe.

“He’s been a real stalwart of the game and one of the best in the business,” McCabe said at the club's AGM.

“We have secured his services until the end of 2029, which we’re extremely pleased about.”

The Cats' 2026 season gets under way in Opening Round against the Gold Coast Suns on March 6.
