Essendon have their eyes on a top selection in the AFL National Draft with the club looking to bring in an elite talent.

The Bombers currently have five selections in the top 30 of the upcoming draft, holding picks 5, 6, 21, 27 and 30.

However, the club are keen to snare a higher selection and are eyeing off West Coast's pick 2, according to the Herald Sun.

Acquiring the second selection in the draft would likely allow Essendon to select ruck/forward Cooper Duff-Tytler - with the Eagles set to select Willem Duursma with pick 1.

Duff-Tytler played one game for the Bombers' VFL team in the recent season, kicking 3.2 from 13 disposals against Sandringham Zebras in Round 21.

Essendon would likely have to deal either pick 5 or 6 and acquire a mid-teens selection to satisfy West Coast to release pick 2.

It's been a busy off-season for the Bombers, who managed to keep a hold of captain Zach Merrett despite the advances of Hawthorn.

Ruckman Sam Draper has left for Brisbane as a free agent, with an end-of-first round compensation pick coming back to the club.

Essendon secured Gold Coast utility Brayden Fiorini for a future third-round selection in a move to improve their midfield depth.
