A trade has been agreed between Carlton and Sydney, but not the one everyone is waiting for.

While the two clubs haggle over a deal for star forward Charlie Curnow, rebounding defender Ollie Florent has reportedly been traded to the Blues in a separate deal.

According to AFL.com.au's Riley Beveridge, the 27-year-old heads to Ikon Park in exchange for a future third-round pick.

The deal is expected to help facilitate the Curnow trade in one way or another, although it's not yet clear exactly how.

As far as the Swans are concerned, getting Florent's contract off their books, which currently runs through to end of 2029, will no doubt clear some cap space for Curnow.

And Carlton, in taking Florent off Sydney's hands, have got themselves a bargain in the form of a 184-gamer who has played in two grand finals.

Why the deal was pushed through separately remains to be seen, although it could mean a third club may be involved in the eventual Curnow deal, if that one is to be agreed.

For now, it suggests relations between the two clubs are healthy enough to reach an accord as the trade deadline approaches.
