Carlton might have lost four players in the 2025 AFL trade period, but it has ended up the big winner of it.

Jack Silvagni and Tom De Koning (both St Kilda), Corey Durdin (Port Adelaide) and Charlie Curnow (Sydney) have all left the club through the trade and free agent period.

However, the Blues have set their future up with the Blues having two first-round picks in the next three drafts after trading Curnow to Sydney saw the Swans trade three first-round picks back.

Liam Reidy (Fremantle), Campbell Chesser (West Coast Eagles), Ben Ainsworth (Gold Coast) and Will Hayward and Oliver Florent (both Sydney) have come into the club.

The Blues are the big winners of the trade period by setting up their future with the first round picks and bringing in some players that will improve their list, such as Haywood, Florent and Ainsworth.

The Blues also picked up picks 9, 31, 42 and 43 from Hawthorn for picks 10 and 22 in a nice trade.

Carlton's football boss, Chris Davies, has said that trading Curnow and three second-round picks for Hayward and three future first-round picks is a trade that heavily favours Carlton.

“We were looking for the best possible deal, and with half an hour to go, I didn’t think it was going to get done,” Davies said in a press conference after the trade deadline.

“We’re pleased. Three first-rounders and Will Hayward – effectively a fourth – gives us great flexibility and will let us effectively match bids on players coming through.

“It also gives us flexibility in the lead-up to Tassie entering the competition.”

Although trading a player of Curnow's calibre will be seen as a negative, letting a player that doesn't want to be at your club go and bringing in that much talent can only be seen as a plus for a side that struggled this year.

Carlton couldn't match De Koning's expected salary at St Kilda, and although Silvagni and Durdin leaving the club may hurt them in the short term, their future is looking bright.

Carlton ins: Liam Reidy (Fremantle), Campbell Chesser (West Coast Eagles), Ben Ainsworth (Gold Coast), Will Hayward and Oliver Florent (both Sydney), pick 9 (Hawthorn), pick 11 (Sydney), 2026 future first (Sydney), 2027 future first (Sydney)

Carlton outs: Jack Silvagni and Tom De Koning (St Kilda - free agency), Corey Durdin (Port Adelaide), Charlie Curnow (Sydney), pick 10, pick 22, pick 31, pick 41, pick 42, pick 51, pick 69, 2026 round two, 2026 round three, 2027 round two.
