Brisbane's best and fairest night saw the Lions announce that at least six players are expected to leave the club over the off-season, with three trade requests, two delistings and one retirement.

The news comes just five days after the Lions' second consecutive premiership win against Geelong, with the 47-point win coming just last Saturday.

There are three players from the Lions wanting to be traded, with two-time premiership star Callum Ah Chee wanting to be traded to Adelaide, while fellow two-time premiership star Brandon Starcevich and 47-gamer Deven Robertson want to be traded to the West Coast Eagles.

2024 mid-season rookie draftee Darcy Craven and 2023 trade recruit Brandon Ryan were announced as the two delistings the Lions would be making to start the off-season.

Sam Day announced his retirement from the AFL, with the 33-year-old retiring after playing 168 games and after one season with the Lions, after being traded from Gold Coast at the end of last year, where he spent 13 seasons.

Lions list manager Dom Ambrogio spoke about the changes in a statement released by the Lions.

“Whilst it is disappointing to have premiership players and high-quality people leave the organisation, we understand this is the nature of the industry at times.

"In light of these requests, we will now work to pursue the best possible outcome for the Brisbane Lions,” Ambrogio said about the three trade requests.

“Sam is a person of outstanding character that we were fortunate to have at the Brisbane Lions.”

“During his time with us, he has made an extremely selfless contribution to our Club both on and off the field and played an important role throughout the season which ultimately resulted in a premiership for the club,” Ambrogio said about Day's retirement.

“Both Brandon and Darcy showed potential and improvement during their time with the Brisbane Lions and produced some very good performances at VFL level,” Ambrogio said about Craven and Ryan's delisting.

“We would like to thank all departing players for their tireless effort and valuable contribution to the Brisbane Lions and wish them and their families all the best for the future.”
