The rumours around the Crows making a play for contracted Melbourne star Christian Petracca won't go away.

However, some news out of Adelaide could have significant ramifications for any move.

Italian football giants Juventus have announced the acquisition of strength and conditioning supremo Darren Burgess, who will join the club as Director of Performance.

MORENew potential suitor emerges for Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

Burgess heads to Europe after four years in Adelaide, but significantly, he previously worked at the Dees, including during their 2021 premiership victory in which Petracca capped off a career-best season by winning the Norm Smith Medal.

The highly experienced Burgess has developed a reputation as a world-leader in injury management and prevention, having previously worked at Liverpool and Arsenal in the English Premier League, as well as Port Adelaide.

"The highlights of his career include his work on injury prevention, supervision of the medical and performance department in all its aspects – fitness, nutrition, rehabilitation, psychology and recovery for both men and women – and innovation in talent development," a Juventus statement read.

"Darren's appointment – he will begin working with Juventus once the necessary international paperwork has been completed – marks a significant step forward in Juventus' commitment to excellence in performance, innovation and the well-being of its athletes."

Burgess' departure from the Crows has led to speculation Petracca's interest in a move to the South Australian club may cool.

Regardless, the 29-year-old remains contracted to the Demons through to the end of 2029, meaning any potential suitors would need to satisfy Melbourne with a trade, as well as convincing the gun on-baller to join.
