Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron, one of the AFL's great characters, had a priceless reaction when he was announced as captain of the 2025 All-Australian squad.
“I don’t think I’ve captained any team in my life,” he said. “(Patrick Dangerfield) has asked me a couple times to do the pre-game speech and I’ve knocked him back.
"I’ve had absolutely no practice at all – I like sitting back and listening in and then just playing the game. It’s all new to me.”
It has now been speculated that Adelaide wasn't thrilled that its captain, Jordan Dawson, didn't receive the honour.

The All-Australian selection committee does have a somewhat odd tendency to select left-field candidates to "captain" the side, most notably Buddy Franklin back in 2018.
But fresh off being named the AFLPA's best skipper, Dawson would have been a worthy captain of the All-Australian side.
Since his arrival in Adelaide from the Swans in 2022, the 28-year-old has been a critical member of the revitalised Crows under coach Matthew Nicks, guiding them to a surprise minor premiership this year.
“I think they were a bit disappointed, to be honest, because the level of achievement this year,” AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich told SEN’s Crunch Time.
“First finals series since 2017. Risen from 15th to 1st, and his impact has been massive, not just this year but since he arrived at the club.
“So, I rate that they saw him being the All-Australian captain. They have every right to be disappointed.”
