Angel Reese had avoided this for a while.
But sitting just one technical foul away from an automatic one-game suspension, the Chicago Sky's second-year forward couldn't stay out of the way forever.
On Wednesday night, Reese was assessed a tech, her eighth of the season. And with that eighth technical foul comes an automatic suspension from the WNBA for one game.
Unless the tech is rescinded after the fact, Reese will miss the Sky's game on Friday against the Indiana Fever.
It was a bit of an unlucky technical foul for Reese on this occasion.
She was battling for rebound position on the block with Aaliyah Edwards, and as Reese attempted to slide by Edwards, she whacked the opposing player across the head with her hand.
It's not clear whether it could've been intentional. The officials had no real choice but to assess the technical given the hard contact to the head of an opposing player.
Here's a look at the play:

Reese entered the night averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
The Sky went on to cruise past the Connecticut Sun, 88-64.
Chicago improved to 10-30, while the Sun fell to 10-31.
Reese went for 18 points and 13 rebounds, her 23rd double-double of the season.
But she won't be able to carry her momentum into the next one because of the tech and subsequent suspension.
