Women's basketball is having a moment.

The sport was on the precipice of breaking out in 2020, with Oregon phenom Sabrina Ionescu at the center of the revolution, but the COVID pandemic ruined the breakout moment.

Caitlin Clark eventually became the face of the movement, with a playstyle akin to Steph Curry's, capturing the hearts of fans across the nation.

Part of her rise is thanks to her odd relationship with Angel Reese, a one-sided yet enthralling rivalry that has spawned countless think pieces and created endless discussions.

Clark has outgrown this beef, but Reese hasn't, and one longtime journalist thinks the Sky big has destroyed her prominence.

During a recent segment on his show "Fearless," Jason Whitlock didn't pull any punches in a scathing rant pointed at Reese.

"Angel Reese is a laughingstock—and she didn't have to be," Whitlock said. "She's chosen a fight with Caitlin Clark and Indiana Fever fans, and she's become a meme. Yes, she's wealthy because she's become this infamous person, but her lack of skill on the court makes her remain a laughingstock and a joke. I'd raise the white flag in the rivalry with Caitlin Clark, try to be her friendly rival, and show some respect and affinity toward her. She's made a tremendous mistake as it relates to her reputation."

Although Whitlock is a rage-bait artist, this take had some merit.

The notion that Clark and Reese would be the modern Larry Bird and Magic Johnson was insulting from the jump.

Reese is much closer to Greg Kite.

Reese has become a punching bag for her inability to stay out of conflict with Clark and her egotistical comments in the press.

If she had backed it up, like during her time at LSU, there would have been far less blowback.

If the 23-year-old can hit some Mikan drills and improve her standing in the league, she'll be rewarded with more praise and accolades.
