The WNBA has bumped its schedule capacity to 40 games per team this year, and fans of the league will be able to watch a record-high 205 of those games live.

The league partnered with CBS/Paramount+, CBS Sports Network, Ion, NBA TV, Twitter, Amazon Prime Video, Meta Quest, and the ESPN family of networks, including ABC, ESPN2, ESPN3 and ESPN+.

WNBA League Pass will also provide 150 live games to its subscribers, but local blackouts apply.

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert said in a press release:

Providing our passionate, growing fan base with increased opportunities to view WNBA games and related content across traditional as well as streaming and social platforms continues to be a primary focus. And we are doing just that from tip-off weekend in May through our postseason in October as our broadcast and streaming partners continue to offer an enormous national platform for WNBA players and fans. Following an offseason of unprecedented player movement, we are extremely pleased to announce the full 2023 broadcast and streaming schedule, and we’re not done yet as we will continue to look for innovative and creative ways to shape the WNBA fan experience and the landscape of media and content consumption.”

With tip-off set for Friday, May 19 at 7 p.m., The Sporting News went ahead and laid out the complete national TV schedule for the WNBA's 27th annual season.

WNBA national broadcast schedule 2023

All tipoffs listed are in ET, and the full schedule for the season can be viewed on the WNBA website.

Appointment viewing is a new concept the WNBA is trying out this year to raise viewership, synonymous with what other professional leagues like the NFL and NBA have done. According to a press release from the league, this will be done via:

  • Thursdays on Prime
  • Fridays on ION
  • Weekends on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS Television Network

ESPN / ESPN2 / ABC

There will be 25 games split between ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC, the league announced earlier this year. There will be four marquee games opening weekend and history will be made when the All-Star Game is hosted for the first time on primetime on ABC on July 15.

The ESPN family of networks will also be broadcasting up to 27 games from the WNBA Playoffs, including the finals. For extra entertainment, the Skills Challenge and Three-Point Contest will be aired on ESPN on July 14.

Additionally, the WNBA Countdown — the pregame show from last season — will be available with at least 10 editions airing ahead of game broadcasts.

ION

ION will air 44 games courtesy of a shiny new deal between the broadcast giant and the league. The WNBA is the first league to air on this platform, and their "Friday Night Spotlight" will adhere to appointment viewing, meaning fans can expect to sit down on the couch every Friday and catch a game or two.

ION is home to several well-known shows, including NCIS, Blue Bloods, Chicago P.D. and Fire, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU and Bones. If you're a fan of Elena Delle Donne, ION is the place to be, with 12 Washington Mystics games scheduled to air here.

NBA TV

NBA TV is in its 21st season of WNBA coverage and will provide 43 games this year, the second most of any platform. Indiana will be their main focus with 10 games, due to the young and talented roster and its inclusion of South Carolina icon Aliyah Boston. They will broadcast Indiana's game against the Dream, where last year's Rookie of the Year Rhyne Howard will face off with Boston, the favorite to win it this year.

The platform will also feature two of the season's superteam matchups — the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces — when they face each other in both June and August.

Meta Quest

Meta Quest has been given 20 games to showcase. But, like me, I'm sure you're wondering what the heck this platform even is.

It's a virtual reality headset, created by Facebook... Interesting concept, VR basketball. Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever fans will benefit the most, with eight and six of their games respectively being broadcast here.

The league and Meta, who is now an official marketing partner of the league, have signed a multiyear partnership making this an annual thing, and making Meta the official VR headset of the WNBA.

Twitter

Elon Musk's blue bird app gets custody of 12 games. There are special perks about the Twitter games, the biggest being that when fans tweet about a team, the tweet can and will be incorporated into the action-packed game-day livestreams.

11 teams will have games presented under #WNBATwitterLive, which will also provide game highlights and postgame interviews.
