Arizona high school football continued to have some top performances in all three phases.

This week was definitely no exception as athletes across the “Grand Canyon State” were honored for offensive and defensive exploits, as well as on special teams.

The Sporting News now would like to recognize those top performers from Week 7. Also, readers can now vote on who they think should be the Arizona Player of the Week.

Vote as many times as you like until 11:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, and the winner will be announced next week.

Jaylee Abraham, Tucson Desert View

Abraham, a sophomore tailback/safety, rushed for 222 yards on 13 carries and scored four TDs, while intercepting a pass on defense as the Jaguars moved to 7-0 after a 57-0 win against Nogales.

Prentes Boxx III, Yuma Gila Ridge

Boxx, a senior tailback, rushed for 240 yards on 16 carries and had four TDs in his team’s 63-6 win against crosstown foe Kofa.

Marshawn Britt, Chandler Prep

A sophomore, Britt had nine carries for 175 yards and five TDs while picking off a pass on defense in a 60-0 win against ALA Anthem Prep.

D’Mari Bryant, Goodyear Millennium

Bryant, a junior tailback, rushed for 203 yards on 23 carries and scored three TDs as the Tigers bested Tolleson, 38-21.

Dominic Carmigiano, Red Mountain

Carmigiano, a senior quarterback, was 9-of-11 passing for 250 yards and three TDs as Red Mountain defeated Desert Ridge, 69-16.

Riley Carson, Mica Mountain

Carson, a senior placekicker/punter, was 2-for-2 on PATs and made two field goals, his longest covering 39 yards, along with having four of his five kickoffs go for touchbacks and punting five times, averaging 43.2 yards, in the Thunderbolts’ 20-14 win against Walden Grove.

Trane Figueroa, Antelope

A junior quarterback, Figueroa completed 18-of-32 passes for 290 yards and three TDs and also had a rushing TD as the Rams downed San Pasqual Valley, 45-20.

Sean Helgeson, Scottsdale Christian

A senior quarterback, Helgeson completed 11-of-21 passes for 208 yards and four TDs as the Eagles improved to 8-0 after a 41-34 win against Phoenix Christian.

Ivan Higuera, Douglas

A senior quarterback, Higuera threw for 267 yards and three TDs and added a rushing TD in a 45-14 win against Amphitheater.

Jackson McCarthy, Canyon View

A senior linebacker, McCarthy helped the Jaguars’ defense pitch a shutout, beating Glendale Kellis, 49-0. McCarthy registered eight tackles, including five solo stops and three tackles for loss, as well as recording the team’s lone sack.

Joshua McHale, Glendale Prep

McHale, a senior quarterback, threw for 411 yards and six TDs as Glendale Prep bested Highland Prep West, 62-46.

Angel Neria, Camelback

A senior signal-caller, Neria completed 20-of-24 passes for 230 yards and five TDs in Camelback’s 49-14 win against Trevor Browne.

Davion Ross, Cienega

Ross, a senior linebacker, had a team-high 12 total tackles, including six solo stops and a tackle for loss, along with an interception, one of three picks from the Bobcats’ defense in a 20-6 win against Sunnyside.

Adan Sanchez, Deer Valley

Sanchez, a senior tailback, rushed for 128 yards on 10 carries with two TDs and also had a TD receiving in a 24-23 win against Lake Havasu.

Jeffrey Smith III, Tucson Marana

Smith, a sophomore running back/linebacker, had 210 yards rushing on 12 carries and two TDs, a 43-yard reception and seven tackles on defense in the Tigers’ 51-27 win against Casa Grande.

Ezra Spivey, Tucson High

A sophomore safety, Spivey recorded 12 tackles, including five solo, along with intercepting a pass, causing one fumble and recovering another, taking it back 25 yards for a TD in the Badgers’ 28-23 win against Canyon del Oro.

Landon Stych, Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep

The senior turned in a phenomenal game on both sides of the ball in the Saints’ 42-24 win against crosstown foe Chaparral. Stych rushed for 112 yards and a TD, had two passing TDs, recorded 10 tackles and a sack and had a pick-six.

Davian Whitener, Desert Mountain

A junior defensive lineman, Whitener had seven tackles, three for loss, three pass deflections and a pick-six in a 43-3 win against Ironwood Ridge.

Ben Wolfley, Goodyear Trivium Prep

Wolfley, a junior, rushed for 239 yards on 21 carries with a TD, but had a greater impact on the defensive side of the ball in a 20-14 win against Wittmann Mountainside. He had 14 solo tackles and had a 97-yard pick-six, which turned out to be the game-winning score.

Joe Yoney, Mohave

Yoney, a senior quarterback, completed 17-of-25 passes for 279 yards and five TDs while rushing for 91 yards on six carries and scoring twice in the Thunderbirds’ 60-7 win against Flagstaff.
