A massive game in the Dallas/Fort Worth area pits Melissa (6-1, 6-0) and Prosper Walnut Grove (8-0, 6-0) with the District 4-5A Division II championship.

The Wildcats won last year’s meeting, 37-28, on their way to a district title and an 11-2 season that included playoff wins over Arlington Seguin and Lubbock-Cooper.

The Cardinals finished 6-4 (5-3) and missed the playoffs, so a win over Walnut Grove, not in its third varsity season, would be huge.

Wildcats running back Cam Newton has 1,507 yards and 25 touchdowns, while quarterback Hayes Hackney has thrown for 1,904 yards with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Melissa’s only loss was to Don Bosco Prep (NJ), 14-10, in the season opener. The Ironmen are 8-0 this season.
