Two dominant forces in cricket are set to reignite their old rivalry when Australia and India clash in the first One-Day International match of the three-match series on Sunday.

After achieving the first home Test series victory against the West Indies, India's newly appointed ODI captain, Shubman Gill, will switch the focus to ODIs. India last played their ODI match in March against New Zealand, where they defeated the Kiwis to clinch the Champions Trophy, and will be high on confidence coming into this series.

Australia, meanwhile, lost their last series 1-2 to South Africa, but their performance in the final ODI match speaks about their form. They were victorious by a whopping 276 runs. With a squad blended with experience and uprising talents, the hosts will look to start the series on a positive note.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Australia vs. India 1st ODI predicted XIs, team news

With a bigger challenge in front, Australia will aim to field a strong playing XI against India in the opening match amid the absence of their key players.

The hosts have some disappointing news, as Josh Inglis, Alex Carey, and Adam Zampa will miss the series opener on Sunday; Inglis has been ruled out with a right calf strain, and Zampa will be out for paternity reasons.  Alex Carey will miss the match to play in South Australia's round two Sheffield Shield fixture for his Ashes preparations.

Wicketkeeper batter Josh Philippe replaces Inglis in the squad, while Matthew Kuhnemann has been added for Adam Zampa. Philippe is set to feature in his first ODI in four years, having last featured against the West Indies in 2021.

Mitchell Owen, who missed the opportunity to debut against the South Africa ODIs due to concussion protocols, is on the line to debut against India in the opening match along with Matthew Renshaw.

Marnus Labuschagne, who was omitted from the squad earlier, is set to replace injured Cameron Green in this series. Green has been ruled out after experiencing low-grade side soreness at training. All-rounder Aaron Hardie remains dropped from Australia's ODI squad for this series.

On the bowling front, Mitchell Starc will spearhead the attack, along with Ben Dwarshuis. The addition of Josh Hazlewood will bolster the Aussie's pace attack.

Australia predicted XI: Mitch Marsh (c), Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Philippe (wk), Mitch Owen, Cooper Connolly, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Matthew Kuhnemann.

Shubman Gill is set to replace Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain; the 26-year-old has big shoes to fill.

Veteran legendary batter Virat Kohli is set to return for the ODIs after last featuring during the Champions Trophy along with Rohit Sharma. This could be the last Australia tour for the duo, having already retired from the Tests and T20Is.

As Rishabh Pant continues to recover from his foot injury sustained during the England tour, Dhruv Jurel has been added as a backup wicketkeeper to KL Rahul, who is most likely to keep in the ODIs.

India's headache will be to fill the vacant spot of Hardik Pandya; the star all-rounder will miss the tour with a quad injury. It will open doors for Nitish Kumar Reddy to debut in the opening match.

Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are two other all-rounders in the squad, with only one likely to be getting the opportunity in the opening match.

With Jasprit Bumrah only included in the T20I squad, Mohammed Siraj will lead the bowling attack along with Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna. Kuldeep Yadav will continue to lead the spin department.

India predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj.
